HSB uses a AS355 twin engine Ecureuil which offers all the
qualities for this type of mission.
Urgent medical care can be of vital importance in case of life threatening
situations. These situations are often caused by accidents or by a serious illness. Under
such circumstances it is absolutely crucial to get the necessary medical assistance to the
patient.
It is imperative that this urgent assistance is swift. Very often
the patient will not get a
second chance.
The medical helicopter based in Brugge is a helicopter
operating with a speed of 4 km per minute. The helicopter can land within 15 minutes in
the entire province of "West-Vlaanderen", a large part of the province of
"Oost-Vlaanderen" and of the dutch Province of "Zeeland".
Especially in the more remote parts of the province, the medical
helicopter is used as a primary intervention force. In the other parts the helicopter
serves mostly as a secondary force, when the intervention unit is answering another call
or when assisting on incidents with several injured persons.
The patient is transferred to the nearest hospital able to
offer the appropriate care.
The medical helicopter can also be used for interhospital
transport.
Obviously the medical helicopter will also be used when a contingency plan is being
operated.
